Police have closed off part of Cambridge Terrace in Papatoetoe following a serious incident on Thursday evening.
Emergency services were called to the South Auckland street at about 6.40pm.
Counties Manukau District Commander Superintendent Shanan Gray said cordons had been put in place and were expected to remain through the night.
Hato Hone St John confirmed it sent an ambulance, a critical care unit and an operations manager to the scene.
Police have not yet released further details about what happened or whether anyone has been injured.
Members of the public have been asked to stay away from the area while emergency crews continue their work.
