A special ceremony will be held at Takanini Gurudwara on Saturday to honour young Sikh leader Amanjot Singh, who recently made headlines by winning the 2026 Race Unity Speech Awards National Championship.
A Year 13 student at Hastings Boys’ High School, Amanjot was named the overall national champion and also received awards recognising his vision for a multicultural Aotearoa and his commitment to compassion and unity.
Organisers say the recognition ceremony is being held to celebrate Amanjot’s outstanding achievement and his efforts to promote race unity, mutual respect and understanding among communities across New Zealand.
His inspiring speech has earned praise from educators, community leaders and the wider Sikh community. Amanjot’s success has also brought pride to Hastings Boys’ High School and the Sikh community, with many describing him as a role model for young New Zealanders.
The special honouring ceremony will take place at Gurudwara Kalgidhar Sahib, Takanini, where members of the community are expected to gather to congratulate the young champion and wish him continued success in the future.
