Two people have been taken into custody after police intercepted a vehicle on Auckland’s Southern Motorway near Drury following multiple reports of dangerous driving on Monday evening.
Police began receiving calls just before 5pm after motorists reported a Mercedes-Benz swerving across southbound lanes near Takanini and narrowly avoiding several vehicles.
Senior Sergeant Dave Readings said police units located and stopped the vehicle south of the Papakura on-ramp, near Drury. The male driver and a passenger were taken into custody and inquiries are continuing.
“We acknowledge those motorists who called 111 this evening so that we could prevent any harm from occurring,” Senior Sergeant Readings said.
Takanini MP Rima Nakhle also thanked members of the public and police for their swift response. Sharing the police update, she said she was not aware of further details but hoped no one had been injured.
“Thank you to everyone who called and reported the dangerous driving and to our New Zealand Police for responding quickly. I’m hoping no one was hurt or worse,” she said.
No injuries have been reported and police inquiries remain ongoing.
